People commenting keep voting Republican are the same people who don't know the states history slightly. It was a Democratic strong hold from 1932 to 2000 presidentially. Senate wise from 1958 to 2014. Richard Byrd served as Democratic leader and he was from West Virginia from 1958 to 2009. Even though it's probably staged, it's nice to see a politician actually interact with the least fortunate, rather than just drive by them thinking they all did something to deserve it. (and yes I do know that some have caused their own misfortune, but most don't)

I tried very hard to understand these Trump supporters. There are many hypotheses, but many of them are either untested, or their predictions turned out wrong, or their predictions apply to only a small subset of Republican voters (Trump supporters are about 80-90% of Republican voters.) The best theory I found come from this researcher (summary 1 and summary 2). He predicted many things correctly and at least two decades before Trump was elected, when Fox News was just starting.
