Kennedy's victory in the West Virginia Democratic primary basically sealed the nomination for him over Hubert Humphrey, and was evidence that Kennedy (a well known Catholic) could win a heavily Protestant state despite fears anti-Catholic bigotry would make him unelectable. In the general WV voted for him over Richard Nixon 53-47%, helping him win arguably the closest Presidential election in American history. Although that wasn't as big as a surprise as WV was a pretty Democratic leaning state at the time.

The general public aren't trained to interact with the police. We frequently see situations like this, where someone in a very high stress situation (multiple cops trying to restrain, punch and taze him), doesn't react in a way that makes sense to an outside observer, but probably made sense to them at the time. When I couldn't write my vows. I knew when I couldn't come up with anything, it wasn't right. I was 22 and he was in his 30s. I got married anyway. Before our one year anniversary I developed severe panic attacks and an extreme mood disorder. I did some really shitty things and then just left. The thing is, he was a wonderful dude. I was just about to back up and check on them when I remembered a story that an old greybeard colleague of mine told me. He told me that in certain remote areas, people will lie down in the middle of the road and wait for a car or truck to stop and see what's going on.
